Evangelism Secretary

Peter Grier

What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever done?

Hmm, too many to choose from!  Probably running into glass doors (not deliberately) frequently.  I think it was then I decided I should probably get glasses.

What’s the best advice you’d give a Fresher?

Challenge yourself!  Don’t aim for the minimum in your course and in life in general.  You’ll get far more out of life (and get more as a Christian too) and enjoy it far more if you push yourself to do exciting, daunting, new or radical things!  And university’s the place you can do exactly that and meet many other people with similar big aspirations.  So whether it’s biology, rugby club, learning and reading the Bible, CU, orchestra, politics, simply making friends, or whatever you want to do, do it all to God’s glory and get stuck in!

If you could turn one dream into reality, what would it be?

Northern Irish people ruling the world.  It’d be great banter!  Alternatively Aberdeen FC winning the European Cup might come a close second.

Read any good books lately?

I used to say “I don’t read.” Or “I find reading boring”.  But now I’ve seen the difference reading books can make to my Christian life, I read a lot more and even enjoy it!

Pilgrim’s Progress – the world’s second best selling Christian book (after the Bible) is a fantastic read.  Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s “the Gulag Archipelago” was another classic that taught me a lot (don’t be put off by the big name – it’s a v small book!).  And finally “True Discipleship” by William McDonald is a challenging call to radical living that inspired me.

And in Nottingham we get Christian books often for under £1!  Just check out the CU bookstall.

Happiest when…

Lying back on a sunny beach listening to the waves pounding into the shore after a dramatic day’s hiking in the mountains behind me.  God’s creation is so often breathtaking!
